A man has been arrested after allegedly waving an “imitation firearm” at passengers on a bus in Midlothian.

Armed police boarded a number 47 service on Straiton Road in Loanhead near the Park and Ride service which operates to and from Edinburgh on Sunday morning.

A 26-year-old man was detained by officers and the item – later found to be a fake – recovered.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said there was no threat to the wider public and the man is now expected to appear in court at a later date.

They added: “Around 8.20am on Sunday, August 27, police received a report of a man in possession of a firearm in the Straiton Road area of Loanhead.

“Officers attended and a 26-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the alleged incident.

“An imitation firearm was recovered and there was no threat to the public.”
