A man who murdered and mutilated two men with a blowtorch alongside his father has died in jail.
Dean MacLeod, 43, and Ian MacLeod, 66, attacked their victims with machetes, hammers and a Stanley knife at a flat in Edinburgh.
They murdered Derek Johnston, 37, and Desmond Rowlings, 66, at Ian MacLeod’s home at Greendykes House in the Craigmillar area of the city between October 30 and November 1, 2022.
Both victims were disfigured with their ears severed and letters burned on them with a blowtorch.
The pair admitted murdering their victims at the High Court in Edinburgh.
On April 8, 2024, both the father and son were sentenced 34 years in jail before they could apply to be released on parole.

Dean MacLeod died on March 2, less than a year after being sentenced, aged 43 at HMP Low Moss.
The Scottish Prison Service has confirmed that a fatal accident inquiry will be carried out following the death.
A spokesperson said: “Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual.
“Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised, and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Fatal Accident Inquiries are held in due course.”
