A man attacked and raped a 12-year-old girl in a wooded area and told her not to tell others.
Andrew McMahon, 69, subjected the child to sexual assaults on two occasions in Edinburgh in the summer of 2023.
McMahon, currently a prisoner, had denied a series of charges during a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh but was found guilty of raping the schoolgirl twice.
McMahon first attacked the girl at a property in the Granton area between March 28 and August 17, 2023.
He then raped her a second time on August 18 in a wooded area in Niddrie.
The rapist told his child victim not to tell anyone and threatened her after subjecting her to the sexual abuse.
After a jury returned guilty verdicts against the sex offender, judge Alison Stirling told jurors that it was “a difficult and anxious case”.
“Inevitably, what is going to happen is there will be a custodial sentence,” the judge said.
She deferred sentence on McMahon for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report on his background until next month and remanded him in custody.
McMahon was placed on the sex offenders’ register.
