A man has appeared in court accused of attacking a traffic warden in Edinburgh.
Police were called to Gorgie Road at around 4.25pm on Monday following reports of a serious assault.
A 49-year-old NSL parking enforcement service employee was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
A 38-year-old man was then arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
Eamonn Gallagher appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury and danger to life, possessing a bladed article, and threatening or abusive behaviour.
He made no plea and was released on bail. Gallagher, of West Lothian, is due to appear at court again within the next eight days.
NSL, which carries out parking enforcement for the City of Edinburgh Council, confirmed the man injured was one of its attendants.
A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that one of our colleagues was subjected to a serious assault whilst carrying out duties as a Parking Attendant on behalf of The City of Edinburgh Council.
“Due to the ongoing police investigation, we are unable to provide any further details at this time.”
Edinburgh Council leader Cammy said: “Our thoughts are with the victim and his family following this horrendous assault and we are liaising with NSL and Police Scotland on this matter.”
