A man has been left fighting for his life after being struck by a car on Saturday night.

The 51-year-old was on the A803 Falkirk Road in Bonnybridge when he was hit by a silver Hyundai Santa Fe which was travelling towards Larbert.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.10pm and the injured pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Medical staff at the hospital have described his condition as critical.

The driver of the car was not injured.

The A803 Falkirk Road was closed for around eight and a half hours to allow enquiries to be carried out but has since reopened.

Police are now appealing for witnesses.

Constable Neil Mealey said: “A man has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are appealing for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing and we’re appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was in that area with a dash-cam fitted to their vehicle to contact us.”
