Man due in court after alleged assault of train station staff and police

The 41-year-old was arrested and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A man has been arrested at Edinburgh Waverley station after allegedly assaulting a member of staff and a police officer.

The British Transport Police (BTP) said that the 41-year-old was using homophobic language and was in possession of a blade.

He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday charged with allegedly spitting at both a member of LNER staff and a BTP officer.

Additionally he was charged with using threatening and abusive behaviour with a homophobic aggravator, and one charge of being in possession of a bladed article in a public place.

A BTP spokesperson said: “A male has been arrested at Edinburgh Waverley today for assaulting a member of Staff and a police officer. Using homophobic language and being in possession of an bladed article. He will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for the alleged offences.”
