A man has died after he “fell from a height” onto a street in Edinburgh.

Police and paramedics were called to the Cowgate at around 10am on Thursday after receiving reports of a man falling from a height.

Officers were also stationed on George IV Bridge, the elevated street that runs over Cowgate in the capital’s Old Town.

The 48-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a 48-year-old man having fallen from height onto Cowgate in Edinburgh around 10am on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

“Emergency services attended, however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is aware.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”
