A man, aged 30, has died after being rushed to hospital and a woman has been arrested in connection to a minor assault.

A man has died after two were rushed to hospital and a woman was arrested following a disturbance on an Edinburgh street.

The 30-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the city’s Royal Infirmary where he later died on Friday.

Police say the death is currently being treated as unexplained with a post-mortem examination set to take place.

The incident occurred around 7.45pm on Leith Street near to the junction with Greenside Row.

As a result the disturbance, which involved a number of people, a 41-year-old man was also rushed to hospital for treatment.

Police say investigations are ongoing and confirmed that a 46-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to a minor assault.

Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and officers will be in the area working on this investigation.

“The area would have been busy at the time of the incident and we are encouraging anyone who may have seen or heard a disturbance to get in touch.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone with any CCTV, dashcam or any other footage that they think would assist the enquiry.

“We will have a continued police presence in the area and anyone with any concerns can approach these officers.
