A man has been charged in connection with two incidents in Edinburgh in which shop staff were allegedly threatened with a knife.

At around 5.45pm on Saturday, an attempted robbery took place at the Best One store on Bonnington Road.

Around half an hour later, the Co-op on McDonald Road was robbed.

On Monday, the force confirmed a 22-year-old suspect had been arrested and charged and is due to appear at the city’s sheriff court.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged robbery and attempted robbery at convenience stores in Bonnington Road and McDonald Road, Edinburgh, on Saturday, July 4.

“He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, July 6.  

“A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
