A man has been charged following the ‘suspicious’ death of a newlywed woman at Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the site at around 9pm on Thursday after reports of a woman having fallen.

The 31-year-old, who police have named as Fawziyah Javed, died at the scene after reportedly arriving at the city on her honeymoon.

Police have now charged a 27-year-old man in connection with the death of Fawziyah, who was from Pudsey in West Yorkshire.

The man is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, September 6.

Detective Inspector Bob Williamson said: “Fawziyah’s family ask for their privacy to be respected during this extremely difficult time.

“I’d like to thank the officers and partners who attended the scene on Thursday evening and have assisted with our ongoing enquiries.”
