A man has been charged by police after allegedly holding a mobile phone with both hands while driving past a crash in Edinburgh.
Road Policing officers from Dalkeith said a man was traced after he drove past a serious collision on the Edinburgh City Bypass near to the Dreghorn Junction on Friday, November 29.
The man, driving on the opposite carriageway, allegedly passed police holding the phone with both hands with no control over the vehicle’s steering.
He has been charged with road traffic offences and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Road Policing statement read: “On Friday, November 29 Dalkeith Road Police officers were in attendance at a serious road traffic collision near to the Dreghorn Junction on the Edinburgh City Bypass working alongside Scottish Ambulance Service and Bear.
“During this time an individual driving on the opposing carriageway passed officers holding a mobile phone with both hands having no control of the vehicles steering.
“Officers have since traced the individual who has been charged with road traffic offences and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
“This conduct places other road users at risk and will be dealt with robustly.
“Please drive safe and wait until you have stopped driving to check and use your phone.”
