A man has been charged following the theft of donations from a memorial for victims of the Lockerbie bombing tragedy.

The theft occurred at Tundergarth Church on Friday, August 25, with an undisclosed sum of money taken in “plain view” of CCTV cameras.

The 59-year-old was also charged in connection with intent to commit theft from the same location five days later.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 59-year-old man has been arrested and charged following a report of a theft from a church in the Tundergarth area near Lockerbie, on Friday, August 25, 2023.

“He has also been charged in connection with intent to commit theft from the same location on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

“He was released on an undertaking and will appear before Dumfries Sheriff Court at a later date. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
