Man charged in connection with two deliberate fires amid ongoing 'gang war'

It is understood the fires may be linked to the recent discharge of firearms and other fire-raising incidents across Edinburgh.

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with two deliberate fires related to an ongoing gang war in Edinburgh.

Four fire engines were called to a property on Milton Road East at around 6.05am on Sunday, March 16.

Emergency services confirmed said there were no reports of any injuries.

Another deliberate fire took place at a venue in Albert Street, on Thursday, March 6. No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with wilful fireraising and reset of a stolen vehicle.

He is due to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police believe these incidents may be linked to the recent discharge of firearms and other fire-raising incidents in the city.

Enquiries remain ongoing at this time.

Detective Superintendent Paul Grainger said: “I want to reassure the community that we are continuing to work on this investigation and this is just one of many arrests over the coming weeks.
