A man has appeared in court after a video showed a “life-threatening attack” on a cyclist in Edinburgh.

Footage appearing to show a 34-year-old male cyclist being pushed to the ground on High School Wynd at around 6.25pm on Friday was widely shared on social media.

Police Scotland said the cyclist was taken to hospital to be checked over.

Joseph Hedley, from Kirkcaldy, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with “assault to severe injury, impairment and danger to life”.

The 37-year-old made no plea during his appearance, was committed for further examination and granted bail.

Hedley is next due to appear in court at a later date.
