A man has appeared in court after a dog was found dead and another “seriously injured” after a disturbance involving a group in Edinburgh.
Dean Mackay was charged with assault in connection with an incident in the Calder Park area on May 31.
Officers were called to the scene around 4.30pm where one Alsatian dog was discovered dead at the scene, and another was taken to a vet for treatment after being found with serious injuries.
Mackay appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday and made no plea.
The 36-year-old was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.
He is set to appear in court again within the next eight days.
Police previously confirmed that a 37-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman were also charged in connection with the incident.
A spokesperson had said: “A 37-year-old man was previously arrested and charged in connection and was due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, June 3, 2024.
“A 39-year-old woman was also charged in connection with a breach of the beach offence and will be the subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal.”
