Man accused of murdering aesthetician ex-partner found dead in prison

A man accused of murdering his ex-partner at a home in Edinburgh has been found dead in prison.

Lee Greenan appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday, charged with assaulting and killing Vikki Soloman.

The 46-year-old, from Edinburgh, entered no plea and was remanded in custody. He was due to appear at court again this week.

On Sunday, it was confirmed Greenan, who was in custody at HMP Edinburgh, died at around 8.55am.

Police Scotland said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “Every death, whether in prison custody or in our communities, is a tragedy for all those who knew and supported the individual.

“Following the death of someone in our care, Police Scotland are advised, and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. Fatal Accident Inquiries are held in due course.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.55am on Sunday, July 26, 2026, we were made aware of the death of a 46-year-old man at HMP Edinburgh.

“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

It comes after emergency services were called to Craigievar Square in Edinburgh at around 8.45pm on Monday, July 20, following reports of a disturbance.

Miss Soloman, the owner of an aesthetics business, was found with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As he was in legal custody and under the care of the state at the time of his death, the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is required by law to investigate the circumstances and hold a mandatory Fatal Accident Inquiry.

The purpose of a Fatal Accident Inquiry is to establish the cause of death, examine the circumstances surrounding it, and identify any reasonable steps that could have been taken to reduce the risk of similar deaths occurring in the future.

Unlike criminal proceedings, FAIs are fact-finding investigations and do not seek to determine criminal liability or apportion blame.
