A man has been left fighting for his life after he was knocked down by a heavy goods vehicle on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to the A701, Craigmillar Park, near the junction with Lygon Road following reports of the incident at around 6.15pm.

A 55-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where medical staff described his condition as critical.

The vehicle did not stop following the collision but the Volvo lorry and 37-year-old driver were later traced.

Officers closed the A701 while crash investigations were carried out and the road was reopened at around 10.15pm.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Edinburgh Road Policing Constable Mhairi Deuchar said: “I’m appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has any information about what happened, to contact us.

“I’d also ask drivers with dashcams who were in the area at the time to please review your footage and bring anything you think may be significant to our attention.”
