A crash on the M8 westbound caused traffic chaos for hours on Friday afternoon.

The collision near Junction 3A Starlaw Interchange, near Bathgate, shortly before 3pm caused delays of up to an hour.

Two HGVs could be seen stationary on the motorway as emergency services closed the right-hand lane in response to the incident.

The westbound road remained partially blocked at 4pm with Traffic Scotland warning of delays of 60 minutes.

Traffic was still queueing by 4.40pm although delays had eased.

The vehicles involved in the crash were cleared shortly before 5pm.

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
