A “lovable” lurcher has found her forever home after spending more than 1,160 days in care.

Lucy Longlegs arrived at Dogs Trust West Calder as a stray in the summer of 2022.

Over the next two years, the “beautiful girl” failed to find the perfect family, so she joined the Dogs Trust’s sponsorship scheme.

The scheme allows members of the public to sponsor a dog in Dogs Trust care for £1 a week. Sponsorship money helps the charity fund its rehoming centres and pay for food, treats, toys and veterinary care for the dogs.

Dogs in the scheme are also seen by a larger pool of adopters across the UK.

In Lucy’s case, she caught the eye of a couple in Northumberland who had been sponsoring the charity for 15 years.

They travelled over 100 miles to meet the seven-year-old lurcher. After a number of visits it was clear they were a “match made in heaven”.

Zoe James, rehoming manager at Dogs Trust West Calder, said: “Lucy Longlegs future forever family reached out to us to say they had been sponsoring her for some time and were now in a position where they thought they could give her the ultimate gift – a spot on their sofa.

“They travelled quite a distance from England to visit Lucy a few times and quickly realised they were a match made in heaven.

“The visits were followed by a home trial to see how Lucy adapted to her new surroundings. We were all delighted when everything went well, and it was clear that Lucy was where she was meant to be. We had received lovely updates from her new family about how wonderfully she has settled into her forever home. We couldn’t be more thrilled that Lucy Longlegs now has her happy ever after.”

Lucy’s new family say that the “adventurous girl” has brought “much joy” to their lives.

The owners added: “She has the loveliest nature.

“She is well-mannered and loving and likes nothing more than snuggling on the sofa with us at every opportunity.

“She’s also a very adventurous girl in the garden, where she has bursts of energy and likes running around, which brings us much delight. She is a more confident dog now, and we adore her.”
