An Edinburgh shop was robbed by a man wielding a knife on Saturday morning.

Officers in the capital are appealing for witnesses to the incident, in the Warriston area of the city, to come forward.

According to Police Scotland, a man entered the shop on Montagu Terrace at 7.40am, brandishing a knife, and threatened staff to open the till.

The man, described as white, in his early 20s and between 6ft and 6ft 2ins, made off with a sum of cash.

Police Scotland also said the man was wearing a black face covering, black hooded top with the hood up, black trousers and black shoes.

Detective sergeant Dougal Begg said: “Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident but this was a frightening experience for the member of staff.

“Enquires are ongoing to identify the man responsible, including reviewing CCTV from the area.

“Anyone who believes they may have information which could help identify the man or who was in the area at the time of the robbery is urged to contact police as soon as they can.”

Witnesses are asked to contact 101, quoting the incident number 0924 of May 9 with any information, or anonymously contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
