Hunt resumes for 83-year-old’s rapist as man released

A 36-year-old man is no longer a suspect for the sex attack, police said.

A man arrested over the rape of an 83-year-old woman in Fife has been released and is no longer a suspect, police have said.

The woman was attacked at about 5am on Thursday, June 25 at a property at Meldrum Court, Glenrothes.

A 36-year-old man was arrested, but Police Scotland said on Monday that he had been freed without charge.

The force issued a fresh appeal for information and urged locals to make sure their homes were secure “at all times”.

Detective chief inspector John Anderson said: “We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was walking or in a vehicle travelling around the area during that time and who may have seen someone acting suspiciously.

“I would also urge anyone who was in a vehicle with dashcam footage in that area of Glenrothes during that time period to also contact the police.”
