Three tortoises the weight of a “24 pack of Irn-Bru” have arrived at Edinburgh Zoo.
The zoo welcomed female leopard tortoises Daisy, Shelly and Lancelot, from Blackpool Zoo this month.
The arrivals marks the addition of a brand-new species for visitors to see in the zoo’s pygmy hippo house over the summer holidays.
Leopard tortoises are native to the savannas of eastern and southern Africa and can live to be up to 100 years old.
The animals get their name from the distinctive black spots and dashes of yellow on their shells.
They are the fourth largest species of tortoise in the world, weighing in at up to 13kg which is a little more than a 24 pack of Irn-Bru.
Like other turtles and tortoises, they have no ears but can sense vibrations that help them navigate their environment.
They also have no teeth, biting and ripping at food with their hard, sharp, beak-like mouths.
