A hillwalker was airlifted to hospital after suffering a leg injury while walking in hills near Edinburgh.

Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team were called out around midday on Saturday to assist a walker with a lower leg injury on the West Kip in the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Working with paramedics, volunteers put the injured walker on a stretcher before they were taken to hospital in an air ambulance.

Mountain rescue were called by police in Lothian and the Borders to the incident with the helicopter sent from Glasgow to the scene.

Tweed Valley MRT said on Facebook: “The team were called out by Police Scotland Lothians & Scottish Borders at 12.07pm on Saturday to assist an walker with a lower leg injury on West Kip in the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

“Working alongside our colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service SORT team, we reached the casualty and ‘packaged’ them in our stretcher ready for evacuation by the Scottish Air Ambulance Helimed 5 from Glasgow.

“All done and off the hill by 3.34pm. We wish the casualty a swift recovery.”
