Fire crews rushed to tackle a blaze at a biomass plant in Glenrothes.

Three appliances raced to the RWE Markinch Power Station at around 2.20pm on Saturday September 21.

Flames and smoke could be seen billowing from the facility, near to the A92.

Firefighters tackled the blaze for over two hours before leaving the scene at 4.36pm.

No one was injured in the incident, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: “We received a report of a fire at the biomass plant at around 2.13pm, where an industrial biomass belt was well alight.

“Two appliances were initially mobilised from Glenrothes and Methil. We asked for further assistance and another appliance was sent from Auchtermuchty.

“There was not any community impact regarding the scale of the fire. The crews continued to dampen down hotspots and the last appliance left the scene at 4.36pm.”
