A ten-year-old girl has been seriously injured after being hit by a car near a school in Armadale.

The schoolgirl was on Avondale Drive near the junction with West Main Street around 8.40am on Thursday when she was hit by a grey Toyota Hilux car.

Emergency services attended, and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh, where her condition is described as serious but not life-threatening.

The road was closed for over five hours while investigations were carried out. No arrests have been made.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Inspector Thomas Mallinson said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

“Please also check any private CCTV or dash-cam footage you have to see if something has been captured to assist with our investigation.”
