A fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a “loving father and husband” who died in hospital after an alleged attack at an Edinburgh bus stop in March.
Nashir Ahmed died in hospital five days after an incident at a bus stop on Ferry Road on Sunday, March 10.
Mr Ahmed’s daughter, Tania, launched the fundraiser with hopes of raising £5,000 to cover funeral expenses and provide some financial relief for the family, including Mr Ahmed’s two young children.
On the fundraiser, she wrote: “I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart. I am raising funds on behalf of my beloved father, Nashir Ahmed, a 65-year-old man whose life was tragically taken from us in March.
“This senseless act of violence has left our family shattered and in desperate need of support.”
She added: “We are hoping to raise £5,000 to cover the funeral expenses and provide some financial relief for our family during this incredibly difficult time.
“The funeral service and headstone cost approximately £4,500, and the remaining funds will help Nashir’s wife with living expenses as she raises their two underage children alone. One of these children is due to start university this September, adding further financial strain on our family.
“This cushion will help cover overdue bills and living costs, allowing us some breathing room as we navigate this new and painful reality.”
The fundraiser has so far raised more than £3,000 for the family.
In March, Daniel Springer appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury and culpable homicide in relation to Mr Ahmed’s death.
The 38-year-old, of no fixed address, made no plea and was remanded in custody pending further examination.
Anyone wishing to donate to the fundraiser can do so on the GoFundMe page.
