Fundraiser launched for family of 16-year-old after body found in woods

A fundraiser has been launched to support the family of a teenage girl found dead in Stenhousemuir.

Jasmine Ferguson was reported missing on Tuesday, prompting extensive searches.

Police announced on Thursday that a body had been discovered in a wooded area near McLachlan Street in the search for the 16-year-old.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A fundraiser has been set up following Jasmine’s death to support her family with over £3,000 raised within hours.

A balloon release has also been planned in tribute to the teenager.

Jasmine was a pupil at Larbert High School, with headteacher Joanne Wilson describing her as an “important part of the school community”.

She said: “Everyone at Larbert High School is deeply saddened by the death of a much loved former pupil, Jasmine.

“Jasmine was an important part of our school community and her death has had a profound impact on many of our young people, staff and families. Our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and all those who knew and cared for her.

“Our priority is to ensure that pupils who have been affected are surrounded by the care and support they need. A range of support is available in school, including through our school counsellor, Listening Service and our partners at Be Inn Unity, alongside the ongoing support provided by our staff and Pupil Support teams.

“We are incredibly grateful for the way our school community has come together to support one another during such a difficult time.”

Stenhousemuir FC Community Foundation wrote: “Our thoughts are with Jasmine’s family, friends and everyone who knows and loves her at this incredibly difficult time.

“As a community, this is a moment for compassion, kindness and togetherness. When something so deeply upsetting happens close to home, the impact is felt far beyond one family. It touches friends, neighbours, classmates, teammates, colleagues and the wider community.

“Whatever someone may be going through, none of us should have to face difficult times alone. Community is about looking out for one another, offering support without judgement, and making sure people know there is always someone willing to listen.

“Please look after one another, check in with those around you, and remember that sometimes the smallest act of kindness can mean more than we realise.
