Four arrested as stolen vehicle crashes following city centre police chase

Emergency services received reports of a stolen vehicle in the West End of Edinburgh on Thursday morning

Four men have been arrested after police pursued a stolen vehicle which later crashed in Edinburgh city centre.

Emergency services received reports of a stolen vehicle in the West End of the city just before 8am on Thursday.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Dalkeith Road, but it failed to do so. The car then crashed after a short chase.

The occupants were arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution.

An investigation is ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Four men have been arrested following a short pursuit and crash in Edinburgh city centre.

“Shortly before 8am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, officers received a report of a stolen vehicle from an address in the West End.

“The vehicle failed to stop for officers on Dalkeith Road and subsequently crashed. The occupants of the vehicle have been arrested and taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Enquiries remain ongoing. Anyone with any relevant dashcam or video footage of the incident is asked to provide this to police via 101 quoting incident number 0573 of May 21, 2026.”
