A fundraiser has been launched to replace a hedgehog hospital after it was damaged by a fire.

Fire crews were called to the Forth Hedgehog Hospital on Wednesday evening after a blaze broke out around 7.40pm.

Dozens of hogs had to be rescued from the shed, which is used to house sick, injured, or orphaned wild hedgehogs.

One hog, which was believed to be hibernating in a pile of logs which caught fire, passed away from its injuries after being taken to the vet.

Founder, Nadia Al-Dujaili, said: “The hogs are all fine, which is the main thing, apart from one poor wild hedgehog that was rescued from the rubble this morning.

“The rescue hedgehogs were checked last night and will be getting full health checks this morning.”

Nadia is now appealing for help to replace the shed, which was burned on the outside and the roof.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the purchase of a new location for the Forth Hedgehog Hospital.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 7.40pm on Wednesday, October 15, to reports of a fire at woodlands to the rear of Middlebank Street, Rosyth.

“Operations Control mobilised one fire appliance, and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a large quantity of rubbish.
