Firefighters have tackled a large hillside blaze on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the popular beauty spot at around 10pm on Monday, after concerned members of the public noticed huge flames on the hill as smoke filled the air.

One resident took to social media with a video of the blaze, and said they saw a “small explosion”.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was a gorse blaze, and mobilised two appliances to the scene.

The fire was successfully put out and there were no reports of any injuries.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.01pm on Monday, July 11 to reports of a fire on a hillside at Arthur’s Seat, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting approximately 50 metres of gorse.

“There were no reported casualties and crews have now left the scene.”
