Fire crews remain on the scene of a blaze at a waste management site seven hours after it broke out.

Emergency services were called to Cireco Park near the Wellwood recycling centre in Dunfermline following reports of a fire around 3.19am.

Scottish Fire and Rescue sent six fire engines and specialist resources.

Four fire crews and a height appliance remain on the scene to ensure the area is safe.

No one was reported injured following the incident and the recycling centre remains open

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.19am on Monday, December 16, to reports of a fire at a landfill site at Wellwood, Dunfermline.

“At its height, Operational Control mobilised six appliances and specialist resources to the scene of the fire.

“There are currently four appliances and a height appliance still at the scene as crews work to make the area safe.

“There are no reported casualties.”

Robin Baird, Chief Executive of Cireco Scotland, which manages Fife Council’s waste, added: “I can confirm that there was a fire at Cireco Park near Lochhead overnight, not at the landfill site, but it’s now out.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) remain onsite to make sure the fire doesn’t reignite.

“There has been no damage or injuries.

“Dunfermline Recycling Centre, which is at the entrance to Lochhead, is open as normal.”
