A popular Fish and chip shop that burnt down two years ago could be completely demolished.
The Pittenweem Fish Bar building has been vacant ever since the devastating fire in August 2022.
David Lowrie Fish Merchants, have now asked Fife Council for planning permission to completely demolish what remains of the High Street premises.
The blaze gutted the C-listed building, leaving it with no roof or floors.
“At the point of survey, the property had suffered from a devastating fire in August 2022 leaving this mid-terraced stone built building in a dangerous, structurally unstable condition,” the structural engineer’s report said.
“The building is extensively fire damaged with the roof and all internal fittings removed or extensively fire damaged,” planning papers said. “Only the external stone walls remain and they are not structurally safe. Demolition and re-building is recommended by the Structural Engineer.”
According to the Structural Engineer’s report, the face of the building appears to be intact, but the view from within is “wholly different”.
The report explained that the structural supports have been “adversely affected by the high temperature fire” and described the building as “dangerous”, “unstable” and “in need of demolition”.
That’s why David Lowrie Fish Merchants have asked for planning permission to tear the remaining walls down and make way for the chip shop’s possible reconstruction.
Councillors will consider the application in due course,
