Emergency services tackling large fire at paper mill

Thirteen appliances and 48 firefighters have been sent to the scene on Glenwood Road, Leslie.

Firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a industrial building in Fife.

Emergency services were called to Sapphire Paper Mill on Glenwood Road, Leslie, at around 5.15am.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed 13 appliances and 48 firefighters from Glenrothes, Methil, Lochgelly, Kirkcaldy and Cupar are at the scene.

They have asked people to avoid the area and nearby homes to keep windows and doors closed at this time.

There are no reported casualties.

Nine fire appliances were still at the scene at 2pm on Tuesday.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.14am on Tuesday, 10 December to reports of a building fire within the town of Leslie, Fife.

“Operations Control has since mobilised 13 fire appliances and several specialist resources to the town’s Glenwood Road.

“Firefighters continue work to extinguish a well-developed fire within a large industrial building. There are no reported casualties.”
