Fire crews battle overnight recycling centre blaze for more than ten hours

Firefighters have been battling the flames at a Fife recycling centre for more than ten hours.

Emergency services were called to Ladybank Recycling Centre at around 10.08pm on Monday night following reports of a fire.

Pictures taken from the scene show bright orange flames bursting from the site and thick smoke billowing into the sky.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed three appliances and a specialist unit are still on the scene.

Chief Executive officer for Fife Resource Solutions Robin Baird confirmed there was a fire overnight at the Lower Melville Wood site.

“The fire started in a pile of waste but the cause has not been confirmed. It was brought under control quickly with the assistance of fire services and staff on site.

“The recycling centre will be open today for bookings.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
