A Fife primary school pupil is “too frightened” to return to class after a schoolboy allegedly threatened him with a knife on the way home from school.

The incident occurred on November 13 in the Urquhart Green area of Glenrothes at around 3.10pm as school pupils were walking home.

It is alleged that a pupil showed a group a knife and made threats.

One mum described the incident as “very serious” and that it could have had a “fatal outcome”.

She told STV News: “My son has been left extremely distressed and is now too frightened to return to school.

“The emotional impact of being confronted with a knife has had a significant effect on his sense of safety and wellbeing.”

The family have been told that the pupil who carried the knife has since returned to the school.

The mum continued: “My son remains fearful of encountering the pupil again, and the current arrangements do nothing to alleviate that fear.

“This incident involved a weapon and put children’s lives at risk. The seriousness of what occurred should not be underestimated, and the emotional and psychological impact on my son is ongoing.”

Fife Council’s education manager, Mary McKay, said policies and protocols were followed after the incident.

She said: “We are aware of an incident that occurred on the way home from school and are supporting the police with their enquiries.

“Parents have been contacted and given reassurance that all relevant policies and protocols have been followed appropriately. The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority, and we will continue to work closely with the authorities to ensure this.”

Police officers have traced a boy in connection with the incident. A report is due to be submitted to the relevant authorities.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Thursday, November 13, 2025, we received a report of a child being in possession of a knife in the Urquhart Green area of Glenrothes around 3.10pm.

“A boy was traced in connection and a report will be submitted to the relevant authorities.”
