Fife Jammers LocationsOrganisers of a children’s fun run in Fife have made the “difficult decision” to cancel the event after a traveller camp was set up on the route.
Staff at Muirhead Outreach Project, a small charity supporting families, had been gearing up for the annual Rainbow Run at Gilvenbank Park in Glenrothes on Sunday.
However, the arrival of a traveller camp at the park has forced the organisers to rethink their plans.
The charity has been forced to cancel the event after being unable to find an alternative venue.
Fife Jammers LocationsA statement on social media explained: “We are really sorry to let you know that, after a lot of discussion, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Rainbow Run.
“Unfortunately, it is no longer possible for us to hold the event at the planned venue while ensuring everyone’s safety and respecting everyone’s needs.
“We have considered whether we could move the Rainbow Run to another venue, but with such short notice, we simply don’t have enough time to make alternative arrangements, complete the necessary risk assessments and safely coordinate everyone involved.”
The organisers urged people to remain respectful when discussing the cancellation and the reasons behind the decision.
A Fife Council spokesperson said they would visit the site on Thursday and that legal action would commence then.
