A fan died during the Hearts vs Rangers match on Sunday.
The medical incident occurred during the closing stages of the bout at Tynecastle.
Despite the best efforts of medical teams, the Hearts supporter died. The Edinburgh club released a statement following the incident.
It read: “It is with great sadness that the club can confirm that a Hearts supporter tragically passed away at Tynecastle Park today.
“A medical incident occurred during the closing stages of this afternoon’s match, and despite the best efforts of the emergency medical services, the supporter could not be saved.
“The club would like to thank the medical services and safety stewards in attendance for their swift action. The thoughts of everyone at Hearts are with the supporter’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
Their opponents on the day, Rangers, also paid tribute to the fan.
They wrote: “Everyone at Rangers is deeply saddened to hear this awful news and we send our sincere condolences. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the supporter at this difficult time.”
Hearts’ city rivals Hibernian paid their respects to the Jambos fan.
The club said: “Our thoughts are with their family, friends and loved ones at this very sad time. Sending our condolences and prayers from across the city.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.15pm on Sunday, 16 February 2025, police were alerted to a man who had taken unwell within the main sand at Tynecastle Stadium, Edinburgh.
“Medical assistance was provided but the man died at the scene. His family are aware.
“There would appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
