A family has described their “living nightmare” following the disappearance of a woman from the Scottish Borders.

Melita Hachey, 30, was last seen in Livingstone Place, Galashiels, last Friday afternoon.

One week on, her family has appealed directly to Ms Hachey to let her know “how deeply loved” she is.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, they said: “The last week has been a living nightmare.

“We just want Melita to be with her family, safe.

“Melita, if you are reading this, we need you to know how deeply loved you are, we are lost without you and desperately need you back with us.

“Nothing matters more than that and our arms are open waiting for you to be with us.”

Police believe Ms Hachey may have travelled to the Leaderfoot area via Gattonside or Melrose and are working to establish how she may have made that journey.

A force spokesperson said: “Police are appealing to motorists and anyone who was in that area to think back and consider if they saw Melita.”

If you have any information or have seen Ms Hachey since February 21, call 101.
