The family of a man who died following a crash on the A7 in the Scottish Borders have said they are “devastated”.
The single-vehicle collision happened at around 10.30am on Thursday, December 4, 2025, near Fountainhall and involved a blue Toyota Rav4.
Emergency services attended and the driver, Ian Weir, from the Fountainhall area, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with serious injuries.
The 66-year-old later died at Borders General Hospital on Monday, January 12, 2026.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, Mr Weir’s family said they were devastated by the loss of their “much-loved brother and uncle” and asked for privacy as they grieve.
They said: “We are devastated at the loss of our much-loved brother and uncle. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. We would like to ask for privacy to grieve at this difficult time.”
Road Policing Constable Lisa Parker said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Weir and we will continue to support them while our enquiries progress.
“I’d like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene before emergency services arrived.
“We’re still keen to speak to anyone who was on the A7 around the time of the crash and saw what happened. In particular, we are yet to identify a man who stopped to provide assistance, and I would encourage them to make contact with us.
“Also, if anyone has dash-cam footage of the area, please review this and bring anything of significance to our attention.”
Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0936 of December 4, 2025.
