A family say they have been left “devastated” following the death of a teenager in Fife car crash on Sunday.
Police closed the B914 near Kelty, close to its junction with the A823, after a crash involving a yellow Volkswagen Golf and a blue Toyota Aygo at around 2.25am.
A 17-year-old male, the driver of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been named as Kerr Paterson from Saline.
The teen’s family described him as a “wonderful, hardworking young man with a bright future ahead of him.”
They added: “He meant the world to us, his parents, his two brothers and sister, and to his many family and friends, and we are struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss.
“Kerr had a deep passion for stock car racing. He truly loved it, and it brought him great happiness. He was proud of what he achieved in the sport, and those memories will stay with us forever.
“We would like to thank the police officers who have supported us throughout this incredibly difficult time. Their kindness, compassion, and professionalism have been a great comfort, and we are deeply grateful for everything they have done.
“We have been overwhelmed by the messages of love, support, and condolences we have received, and we thank everyone for their kindness.”
Enquiries were carried out to trace the occupants of the Volkswagen who were not at the scene when police arrived.
Officers have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the incident, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Sergeant Lee Walkingshaw said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Kerr and they have asked for time to come to terms with what has happened.
“We are continuing to appeal for information and asking anyone who can assist and who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch.
“If you were driving in the area at the time please check any dash-cam footage you might have to see if something has been captured that could help with our investigation.”
Those with information are urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0511 of Sunday, July 5, 2026.
