Families ‘devastated’ after two men killed in crash

The families of two men who died following a crash that left two others critically injured have said they are “devastated” over their loss.

Troi Lawton, 23, and Connor Elgey, 19, died after a Subaru car left the road on the A706 near Whitburn, West Lothian, at around 5am on Saturday.

Two men, aged 28 and 52, suffered life-threatening injuries and remain at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in critical condition.

Police said the driver, a 25-year-old man, was arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences and released pending further inquiries.

In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Mr Lawton’s family said: “We are all devastated and still in shock, we would not wish this upon anyone never mind our broken-hearted family.

“We would ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

Mr Elgey’s family said: “We are devastated by the tragic loss of Connor. His loss will be sorely felt by many.

“We would ask that we are given privacy to come to terms with his loss at this time.”

Both men were from Bathgate.

The road was closed for around 12 hours following the crash while police carried out investigations and officers are appealing for information about the incident.

A report on the incident will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector Roger Park, of Lothians road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the families of both Troi and Connor at this difficult time.

“Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continues.

“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0858 of August 29.”
