A Falkirk carer has been banned from the profession for biting, pushing, and assaulting two residents at a nursing home.
Claire Burnett was convicted of assaulting two residents over the course of four months while employed as a supervisor at the Airthrey Care Nursing Home in 2023.
Falkirk Sheriff Court heard how Burnett bit one resident on the hand, pushed another with two hands, and grabbed the same woman by the arm, causing her injury.
Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) described Burnett’s behaviour as “extremely serious” and “causing physical harm to the residents”.
The watchdog said Burnett had “failed to obey the law and failed to protect vulnerable adults within [her] care”.
“This behaviour is fundamentally incompatible with registration and would undoubtedly bring the reputation of the sector into disrepute,” their decision said.
“If the same or similar behaviour were to be repeated, vulnerable people are likely to suffer emotional and physical harm.”
It was concluded that a suspension order would not be appropriate as Burnett “failed to show any remorse and insight” removing her from the register.
A spokesperson for Meallmore Ltd, which operates the Airthrey Care Nursing Home, said: “The safety and wellbeing of our residents is our greatest priority.
“In 2023, an ex-staff member from Airthrey Care Home was immediately suspended. We took action to safeguard our residents as soon as possible, implementing our investigation and disciplinary processes, which included referring the matter to all appropriate authorities.
“We would like to reassure the families and friends of our residents that we remain fully focused on ensuring everyone at Airthrey receives the highest standards of personalised, quality care and support.”
