An elderly woman has died after her car left the road and collided with a lamp post in Midlothian.
The 79-year-old was driving a beige-coloured Toyota Aygo on the A7 near the Eskbank Roundabout around 12.15am on Tuesday when the vehicle left the road, rolled onto a grass verge and collided with a lamp post.
Emergency services attended, and the woman, who was the only occupant of the car, was found dead within. Her family has been informed.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and have appealed for anyone who may have seen the car between midnight and 12.15am to get in touch.
Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: “If anyone was travelling on the A7 Edinburgh to Carlisle Road around these times, I would ask them to contact us.
“If you have dash cam, please check the footage and pass on any images which could be relevant to our ongoing enquiries as we work to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.”
“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0028 of Tuesday, January 20, 2026.”
