Elderly couple killed in crash between two Kia cars named by police

An elderly couple who died in a fatal car crash near Lauder in the Scottish Borders have been named by police.

Married couple Adam Allan, 79, and Christine Allan, 85, both lost their lives following the incident on Friday around 4.30pm.

The couple, from Kelso, were involved in the collision which occurred on the A697 between Carfraemill and Greenlaw near Lauder.

Mr Allan was the driver of a red Kia Venga and Mrs Allan a front seat passenger in the same vehicle when it was involved in the collision with a blue Kia Sportage.

The female driver of the Kia Sportage was also taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police closed the road for around seven hours while investigations were carried out at the scene

Sergeant Kosmas Papakyriakou said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr and Mrs Allan’s family and friends at this very difficult time for them.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who may have information to contact us.

“You can call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2597 of November 11.”
