A young boy has been left injured after being struck by a car in a hit and run as he cycled home from school in Edinburgh.
The eight-year-old suffered a face injury in the incident that took place on Bowbridge Crescent at around 3.15pm on Monday.
He had just left nearby Frogston Primary School and was on his bike when he was struck by the vehicle.
The black car, possibly a mini or similar, then failed to stop and drove off towards the surrounding housing estate.
Investigating police officers are now looking to trace the driver of the vehicle involved and have appealed for information.
Constable Euan McGonigal, from Howdenhall Police Station, said: “The vehicle is believed to be black in colour, possibly a Mini or similar and travelled away from Burdiehouse Road into the surrounding housing estate following the collision.
“We are carrying out targeted enquiries within the area focussing on CCTV and speaking to people who were nearby at the time.
“We would encourage anyone with information to come forward and we would also urge the driver of the vehicle to come forward.
“Information can be passed to Police Scotland via 101.”
