An elderly dog has been saved from a drain following an eight-hour rescue operation on Tuesday.

Emergency services arrived in Dunfermline’s Pittencrieff Park at around 5pm after they were made aware of a trapped 14-year-old cocker spaniel called Maizi.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources.

A small digger was pictured in the area as firefighters tried to reach the dog which was stuck in a tunnel. Maizi was passed into the care of her owners Margaret and Garry Cumming who were relieved to have their pet back.

The 14-year-old spaniel was checked over by a local vet and is said to be doing well.

Fire crews left at around 1.14am the following morning.
