Edinburgh’s first ever contactless open-air market to open

Edinburgh is set to welcome the city’s first ever contactless open-air market this month.

The Neighbourgood Market, located at The Grange Club in Stockbridge, will invite food operators and restaurants to use their grounds as a safe place for local businesses and traders to sell products.

The new market, which will be the largest outdoor market space in the city centre, will open to the public on July 15.

Customers will have access to a varied range of food and drink as well as a chance to take part in socially-distanced outdoor yoga classes.

Designated circular seating zones for small groups to gather and socialise will be in place.

The venture aims to get local businesses back up and running post coronavirus lockdown.

Bosses have ensured one-way systems and designated circular seating zones will be in place and the site will be 100% contactless.

The weekly market is set to run Wednesday to Sunday with trading hours between 12pm and 7pm.

The duo behind the concept, Preston Mommsen and Edward Wilson, said: “We are really excited to bring this fresh and uplifting concept to the Stockbridge and wider Edinburgh community.

Vendors including Caravan of Courage will be included.

“There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough few months for everyone during lockdown – we’re delighted that we are now able to provide a vibrant platform for people to socialise safely once again, all while enjoying some of Edinburgh’s finest food and drink offering.”

The market is now fully let, having attracted some popular Edinburgh based brands, including Bross Bagels, Mana Poke Bowls, Mimis Bakery, Brew Lab, Innis and Gunn and Edinburgh Gin.

Other vendors on site will include Casa Roble, Lucas Ice Cream, The Peruvian, Screaming Peacock, Rost, Mint, Caravan of Courage, Don’t Tell Mama, Lost Orchards, Good Brothers Wine Bar and Prosecco Boys.

Tribe Yoga will also be hosting a range of outdoor classes on site as soon as permitted.

Gordon Tolland, Grange Club secretary said: “It has been a very difficult few months for most people and so The Grange is absolutely delighted to support this excellent venture.

“As well as providing some much-needed cheer, it will also be a welcome boost for the local economy. Hopefully the weather will be kind so that both residents and visitors can experience Stockbridge at its very best.”
