A second sloth bear has arrived at Edinburgh Zoo.
Rajath, a male sloth bear, joined the facility in Edinburgh months after the arrival of Cipisek, who joined the zoo in July.
The 15-year-old, who arrived from Berlin Zoo, will spend some time settling in before being introduced to Cipisek, who arrived in July from the Czech Republic.
Berlin ZooLucky visitors may have the chance to catch a glimpse of Raj as he explores his specially-designed habitat in the coming days.
Cipisek and Raj will then be introduced to a new enclosure in the coming weeks, which mimics the bears’ natural habitat.
Sloth bears can be found across large parts of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, as well as the southern lowlands of Nepal and presumably Bhutan.
Berlin ZooThe species is listed as vulnerable in the wild with a decreasing population estimated to be less than 10,000.
Vanishing forests and grassland homes for sloth bears has been noted, while many fall victim to poachers.
Edinburgh Zoo hopes the two additions to the facility can inform visitors about the animals and how to help protect them in the wild.
