Man rushed to hospital after 'serious attack' as road closed

A 30-year-old man is being treated at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following the attack in the early hours.

A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an attack on an Edinburgh street that prompted the closure of a major road.

Motorists have been warned that Old Dalkeith Road is to remain blocked off by investigators until at least 7pm on Monday evening after initially being roped off at 3.30am.

It comes after a 30-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following an incident in the Ferniehill Drive area of Gilmerton.

Officers have since launched an investigation into the attack.

 A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.20am on Monday, January 23, we were called to a report of a man having been seriously attacked in the Ferniehill Drive area of Gilmerton, Edinburgh.

“A 30-year-old man has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
