A man has been rushed to hospital and another charged following an alleged serious assault in Edinburgh.

The 63-year-old suffered a number of injuries during the attack at a home in the Loaning Road area of Restalrig on Sunday evening.

Police erected a cordon at the scene shortly afterwards, with a section remaining taped-off more than 12 hours later.

The victim was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for further treatment, where staff describe his condition as stable.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear at the capital’s sheriff court on Tuesday, August 8, while a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.10pm on Sunday, August 6, we were called to a report of a 63-year-old man seriously assaulted in the Loaning Road area of Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and he was taken by ambulance to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment, where medical staff describe his condition as stable.

“A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“He is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, August 8.”
